Project: Bungalow interior redesign

This project was a very tired bungalow, which we reconfigured. Making it brighter, giving it flow through the house. The products used were high standard providing low maintenance for the ageing clients. All rooms and woodwork were stripped and repainted. Remote control Gas fires were installed to give the two main rooms warmth. German windows allowed for less cleaning, a new warm air heating system was very economical and provided cool air in the summer. Heated flooring in conservatory, bathroom and en-suite ensured warmth and drying all year round if required.  The kitchen/diner with a large bespoke island ensured great family get togethers.

Project: Garden landscaping and design

The client wanted their back lawn removed and to extend the back garden up a wild bank.
Some existing plants were retained for wildlife with new terraced areas for new bushes, shrubs and wild flowers.
The final photos show the garden in its finest in late summer.
A retaining wall and different levels of terracing with access to the top level was installed.  We kept Ferns, wildflowers and some existing trees and bushes for screening and wildlife. Lots of shrubs, saplings and plants were planted, i.e. Fatsias, Willows, Rhodedendrons, Camelias, Lavernums, to name a few.

8 bedroomed holiday home flooded

The 8 bedroomed home was let out as a holiday home and Air BnB which could accommodate 12 adults  and multiple children. It had a leak in an upstairs toilet which affected the upstairs hallway, landing and toilet, the  dining room, extensive kitchen and ancillary rooms downstairs.
As it was a business we had to restore the property quickly to prevent Business Interruption costs which we did prior to the second Covid lockdown.
All the wall, woodwork and kitchen units paintwork were all Farrow & Ball colours so we matched those perfectly.

Project: Whole house restoration

7 Bedroom home flood

A Carpet shop friend contacted me to state that a customer of his had just had a very large flood in his 7 bedroomed house. The third floor was fine but the other 12 rooms and hallway were devastated. The client had just had the whole house carpeted and thus got in touch with the carpet shop to replace the expensive carpets.

I contacted the client as he did not know what  to do, as the Insurance company had left him to sort it out on his own. So he asked me to help, therefore I immediately organised the removal of the drenched carpets , the contents to be stored  for Insurance assessment, got the Air Driers in to completely dry out the house. We had to let the house dry for 2.5 weeks and had to do further damage assessment from mould and water damage to the electrics and underground water heating.

I dealt with the client's Insurers, Loss Adjusters and Surveyors as I successfully negotiated a large settlement for the client to restore the property.  Mould was treated which was a legacy of the Insurer's slow reaction to the claim.

The property was refurbished to a high specification with some structural change to a new kitchen/diner.

Due to Privacy and Security issues, photos of the completed property cannot be published, but I wanted to show the damage the client was left with and then our rapid response and work undertaken by us to clean and dry it, preventing further damage.

Leak in flat below

An irregular leak in a downstairs neighbour apartment proved a problem. Using a Leak Detection system did not highlight the issue. Following a discussion with the client and the affected neighbour downstairs we discovered it was water coming from a shower unit which was not used often. Tracing it back we found the faulty unit. As part of the total restoration  we treated wooden joists, replaced damaged soundproofed Insulation and electrics.
All woodwork and walls were repainted or wallpapered. Client wanted floors carpeted and a single wardrobe rather than replace laminate flooring and in-built wardrobe.

Project: Young family house restoration

Client had a Boiler pressure problem, following multiple visits by different plumbers to fix the boiler, we were asked to look at the problem and identified a leak in the central heating system, we just needed to find the leak source.

Leak detection is difficult even with Leak Detection System tools, as it was in this case. Water was concentrated under the floor in multiple areas, Heat or noise detection did not display the source, so delicate lifting of the floor and subfloor was required. The eventual fault was a minor leak in the tight bend of the central heating pipe which only happened occasionally as the hole self sealed due to capillary action.

Following 2 weeks of drying with air driers, work started. Speeding up the process as the customer had 2 very young children and the raised floor was a danger.

Floors, subfloors, pipes and skirting boards were replaced, before walls, skirting and door frames were painted. And heating and boiler working perfectly.
